Irina Nuzova has performed both as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States, Europe, and South America. In Europe, she appeared in the Amici della Musica series in Florence, at Teatro Massimo in Catania (Italy), at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Moscow Conservatory, and in the Netherlands. In the U.S., her performances include the Phillips Collection and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York, the Brooklyn Public Library, as well as chamber recitals in the Rhode Island Chamber Music Series and the Shandelee Music Festival. Together with cellist Wendy Warner, she formed the WarnerNuzova duo, performing throughout the United States, including at Music in the Park in St. Paul and the Gardner Museum in Boston. Nuzova has appeared in live radio interviews and concerts in Boston, Chicago (WFMT), Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., and was interviewed by Fred Child for Performance Today, broadcast nationally.
She has collaborated with musicians such as Sophie Shao, Wendy Warner, Julie Albers, the wind quintet Calefax, and the string quartets Aviv and Attacca. In spring 2015, she gave a recital at the National Gallery of Art in celebration of Women’s History Month.
Originally from Moscow, Russia, Irina Nuzova made her debut at the age of 14 with the Omsk Philharmonic. She studied at the Gnessin Music Academy under Alexander Satz before moving to the United States. She continued her education at the Manhattan School of Music with Lev Natochenny and later at Juilliard, where she studied under Oxana Yablonskaya and Jerome Lowenthal. To further her musical development, she also studied in the cello class of Harvey Shapiro at Juilliard and took private lessons with pianists Jean-Bernard Pommier, Eteri Andjaparidze, and Vladimir Feltsman. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford (Connecticut).
Nuzova is a recipient of the Bruce Hungerford Award at the Young Concert Artist Auditions in New York and winner of top prizes in competitions such as the Vincenzo Bellini International Competition, Città di Senigallia in Italy, and the Beethoven Piano Sonata International Competition in Memphis, Tennessee. As a chamber musician, she received first prizes at the Vittorio Gui Competition and the Premio Trio di Trieste, both in Italy.
Irina Nuzova regularly gives lecture-recitals and masterclasses at schools and public institutions. She and Wendy Warner served as a resident duo at the Music Institute of Chicago. Recently, she was appointed to the piano faculty at the Special Music School in New York.
In the last two summers, she has both taught and performed at the Interharmony International Music Festival. She also serves regularly as a jury member in music competitions.
Ms. Nuzova is a member of Camerata Phillips, the resident ensemble of the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C.
